Poor Posture and it’s relation with Chronic Pain

───────────────

Posture is the alignment and position our body adopts at any given moment based on what our brain is telling it to do. A good way to think of posture is that it is our ‘default’ position at any moment.

This default position is learnt over time and is a result of the brain finding the best way it can to cope with the situations it is asked to endure.

Another way to look at it is that posture is a symptom of both our environment and the way we have learnt to position ourselves to deal with it, given the condition of our musculoskeletal system at the time. An example would be if we sit at a desk for long hours, our sitting posture develops based on whether we are reading, typing, or leaning over forward and the ability of our body to hold any one of those postures.

The idea behind assessing posture is that it gives us insight into the ‘default’ positions that the body has mapped.

What are the ill effects of bad posture?

1. When we have a bad posture, there is early wear and tear of the body muscles and joints.
2. There is improper blood circulation which in turn impedes the nutrition to the joints and muscles causing several deformities.
3. There can be numerous problems like neck pain, back pain, pain between shoulder blades, ankle and foot problems, tension, headaches and diminished lung and cardiac capacity.

What is Body Posture Analysis?

Body Posture Analysis is the process of analyzing your posture, balance, alignment, asymmetries, and motion. This is the crucial first step to improving and strengthening posture.

What does the procedure involve?

1. At FitSol, we perform the body posture analysis with the help of highly specialized cameras and software.
2. Through our posture analysis software, we quantify the deviations in your body posture, and in turn we quantify and gauge the corrections as well.
3. The procedure involves standing in front of a postural analysis grid where your posture is assessed followed by a detailed examination of muscle strength, flexibility, and joint functions.

What benefits will you see after doing postural assessment?

The benefits are numerous. You understand your body mechanics and ways to do the work with least strain on your muscles and joints.

Once you start correcting your posture, several imbalances are corrected in the body. Your muscles start working more effectively. As a result of which you can take care of your chronic painful conditions.
